22-08-01 I finally decided to do a web page, and here it is. Its pretty shit at the moment but, as they say you can't build Rome in a Day. I have been out today round Preston and finally got some new trainers, wow. 23-08-01 Got the Canadian Money today, Purple, Green, Pink and Grey notes, nice. The queens still on the $20 one. Went to see 'Planet of the Apes' Last night, bit of a change from the original, and Tim Burtons Directing was pretty patching in places. Going out tonight to get pissed round Blackpool, but I only have £28.49 left and £1 of that is a Isle of Mann note which you can't bloody use. I do intend to get wasted tonight and tomorrow night though on that and the 4 cans of Stella I have left. 24-08-01 2 Days to go now, better get Paking later on today. Went out last night to the WaterFront, pretty shitty night, but £1 a drink with tokens so got very wasted. Was woke up this morning at 7:45, and was still pissed to watch TV then Watched Star Wars. I have just found out how I can enter myown HTML on this site, so stuff might get a bit easier to follow. 30-8-01 UBC is so cool you can see the snowy mountains across the Bay, from the Uni. The uni its self is amazing, the architecture is so cool, I will endeavour to get some pics up here ASAP. I have met tones of English people and a few Ausis (all Guys, Dam). Canadians don't really start until this weekend, so I havent been able to try out the accent with the ladies, except the barmaid last night! Last night I went out on the piss to meet people and have subsequently missed today orientation, though i got the first good nights sleep I have had. Today we are planning to go to Downtown Vancouver, to find all the shops and buy stuff. Then going on a boat round the Harbour tonight, which should be well cool. Loads of stuff, especially electrical stuff and food its like half price here, though Beer is about the same, bollox! You can't drink in public places here either, so like in parks on grass and on the Beach are very illegal. The beach is a nude beach, which basically means that there are loads of old, fat people on it and there mainly guys. I think I have met most of Keel Uni here all the English people are either from UEA, Lancaster, Keel or Nottingham. 01-08-01 Hay Yall Life here is brilliant. Yesterday I went on a mad tour of Vancouver, its an amazing city, loads of cool places and even Racoons!! I have now reached my saturation point when it comes to names and havent got a clue who all theses Canadians I have just met are. Most of the Canadians have moved in now, my next door neighbour is Kool Mo Bee and after his is Tray. Last night I pretended to be a first year like Ash, and so got tones of free drink all night, which was cool. The older Canadians plan to get me wasted worked, but as far as I saw it, it was a free night. Ash who is only 17 (19 to drink here) got absolutely wasted. I met and danced with tones of new people including tones of girls, but I have now forgot everyone, because I was totally wankered last night. Loads of people keep coming up to me asking me about last night, and I havent go a clue. I, somehow, got up at 9:30 this morning to get the buss to Wal-Mart (big Shop), so after a dodge hour bus ride/hang over, I go there. Got stuff like a duvet, sheets and stuff. Still no speakers though, bugger. And there were no decent digital Cameras either! Tonight is a big drinking night again, which is cool. Meet new people, talk to them, forget it all. Good stuff. Were heading down to the beach for illegal drinking and arsing about.
03-08-01 Went skating round Stanly Park yesterday, with Tyler, Sarah, Lia, Clare and Andy. It was very chilled out and cool, a really cool place to skate, I reccon Im gonna buy some skates over here soon now. When we got back we were all tired after the skating then a meal downtown. The rest of the afternoon we sat about talking and pissin about. Managed to catch some of the Grand Prix, but not a clue what realy happened. After a stupid night (couldnt sleep until 5:30am) I got up at about 11am, and walked round Campus looking for all the buildings my lectures will be in, with Sarah and Tyler. I have just finished playing Tennis, or what could better be described as hitting a ball past people with rackets, ooops Im too shit at that. I met some Guy who was up for teaching us to snowboard. Cant wait until the skiing and boarding starts in November!! I have still not got the hang of meeting people and remembering who the hell they are, at the Beach a few days ago, I met heaps of people. Aussis, Brits, Americans and Canadians where all about. There was one cute Canadian Girl and a mad boy from Toronto, who I would like to see again, but I havent got a clue where they are???? Going to a BBQ tonight which should be cool, though because of the silly drinking rules Im not sure how its gonna go. I also need to change this web page so it looks good, but thats gonna have to wait. I have my first class tomorrow, its Biology at 11am and I know a few other people there which is cool.
05-09-01 Just been swimming in the Pacific, well the strait need me anyway, very cool, didnt go nude though. I went with, some people I met last night, some I didnt piss off (Later on) Max from Malaysia and Sarah from BC. Its really relaxing going swimming in the sea after work. Yes, work I have 2 lectures today, though both were pretty much introductions not actual work. I had 3rd year Biology and 2nd year Geography courses, and if there anything to go with, is gonna be a bloody easy year!! Sarah (from England) is in my Biology and Andy (from Lancaster uni) is in my Geography. So all in all today has been pretty cool so far, not a clue whats going on tonight though. Sarah went shopping after Bio and is getting me some Blades, just like 12 ones though. I have looked more into the camera, and cant be arsed looking round loads of little stores for it, so Im just gonna get it over the internet from a big retailer Every time I go out in my Lancaster Uni top, I run into loads of people who either did exchange there or are like me but a year on and still here. I just came out of dinner and met a girl from Lancaster who invited me to come and watch films, but at the moment a big pub crawl is whats probably gonna happen. Last night was bad-ass I got way, way to drunk and I think pissed a few people of a bit, but thats all sorted now. I have a rep for being the Drunken English Guy though I think, which is cool. 06-09-01 Well It looks like all this has fucked up, so I can't find a copy of the diary from today, basically it is gone. But it wasn't that good anyway, We went out last night, into town and had cocktails at the Cactus club, then went to a club called 'Kits' which was cool but we were in an annoyingly small group, so it would have been a lot better with more people. I also got the wrong bus into town earlier on in the day, and then had to get the sky train back to the centre, which is very cool and quick. Then I got a digital camera, which I'm figuring out how to use, then will have some pics on the net soon.
007-09-01 Well today not much has happened, and Im bloody knackered need to sleep big time. Been pissin about with my Camera, and I will get some pics. I think were going out tonight. Might go swimming soon or perhaps go for a skate round campus. Last night we didnt really get up too much there was a house meeting, which was boring. I managed to liven it up by asking how many people you could have sleeping in your room. And there is no limit, No, no no, no, no, No. No, no theirs no Limit, no, no limit no reach for the sky, no valley to deep no mountain to high. so free accommodation in Vancouver for anyone, and everyone! After that Ash, Claire, some guy called Matt, and I went to go and get pissed at Toltam another residence, but everyone there were asleep, so we came back had a few drinks and went to bed.
08-09-01 Today, was the day of the Vanier Olympics which like most international students, I didnt go to. It was like a 10 years olds birthday party type games, no drink and at 9am. So I was woke up at the silly hour of 9am, bollox! Later on me and Sarah (Canadian one) got bord and so decided to go on a bus, and see what happened. We ended up getting a slurpy, which is pretty much a slush-puppy from a 7-11. Then we walked about a bit, and found the coast and sat about at Kits Beach (a few pics in the pics section). Last night, Tyler, Claire, Sarah, Andy, Ash, Helen, Me (and probably some one else who will get mad since I cant remember), well anyway we went to the pit. There was a queue so we didnt go in, because Ash is only 17 and would not get in. So we came back and drunk more, then went to Kerners. Were we stayed for ages, and got drunk. On the way back we set up a road block with cones and signs we found, this very much confused 2 car drivers, who mounted the pavement to avoid it. Tonight, Im going for a meal with Tyler, Andy, Claire, Helen, Lia and probably some more. Then I think we are going to the Pit.
10-9-01 Today I have just finished all my lectures for the day now, and have nothing to do. Though I get the feeling I should have been doing a lot of reading, so I better catch up on that. Which brings me to a major problem, in that I have no text books yet. This is because of the dam stupid people of HSBC Cleveleys who didnt bother to set up my account properly, meaning I have no money left (spent it all on beer and stuff for my room). I managed to do last night without drinking, which was, well different. We just had dinner here, then I was blagged into watching Dirty Dancing, what a shitty film. Technically it is absolutely awful, and only the sound Track and Choreography possibly save it. Then me and Tyler had a Kick about, and then just came back and talked to various people all night till just past 2 when I went to bed. The night before we went for a Mexian meal, which was pretty good. I went with Tyler, Andy, Lia, Claire, Matt, Andrew, Helen and Julie (I need to get some pics of people I know). After that we separated and I went to the pit with Tyler, Julie and Lia. I got board in the pit, it was too quite, and so went back, but on my way home I met up with Kat and Sara, and went back to the pit for a bit with them, then came back again when, the pit proved to still be boring. We then sat about talking till about 4am again which was pretty cool. I need to do work this afternoon, which means I need to buy a book from the rip of book store because the other one is sold out, shit at 60 Each a text book, they better be bloody good.
More!! This afternoon, I went and got a 60 or $120 Bio Text book, and came back with the intent of reading it. But instead went swimming and pissing about in the swimming pool, they have a basket ball net there! Just spend a good hour procrastinating and Im finally getting down to a bit of work. Which Im obviously not doing, when Im typing this Put a few more pics in the pics album, but not much, Im gonna take my camera out tonight, so I might be able to get some pics of people not just views.
11-09-01 Bloody hell, what the hells wrong with the world. 4 planes, thats madness, and madness on a grand scale. Have you seen all the pics on CNN, bloody crazy. I still cant believe that someone/some group would do something like that to public buildings. Any how I have spend about half of the day either talking about it or watching CNN, I have seen that plane crash over 100 times easily, they just show the same stuff. I was woke up at 9am, by Andy, then got showered oblivious to what had happened, until Claire MSNed me and told me, so I watch TV for ages, instead of doing work. Ive had biology today, which again was rather easy, and then geography, which was pretty good today. I have bought yet another textbook (only $40 this time). Im now trying to get some work done, whilst most people are watching CNN. I had Tea at a sushi restaurant, which was expensive (5.50) but so good, compared to crappy caf food. I went there with Ash, who started lectures at 8am and finished at 9pm, a long day. Tonight its Ausi James Birthday and a load of people are going in to town to a 70s club, but I cant be ringed with that so Im either gonna do work or drink at the pit. All the second years have too much work to drink, and all the first years arent old enough yet, so Im not sure who to go with. Last night I did another non-drinking night, that 4 in 16 days, but I actually got a good nights sleep again. I had stayed up for ages talking at first to Claire and then to Tyler and Andy (who were drinking).
12-09-01 Lectures where boring today again, I think its just Monday, Wednesday and Friday Lectures that are shitty ones. This afternoon, Sara and I went into town to kick some ass in HSBC, it worked and I now have money. Then we have just sat about all afternoon talking and listening to music. Last night I stayed up talking again for ages with Kat and Sara, which annoyed them because they both had a 8am class. To clear up any confusion about people there are 3 Sarahs and one Sara on the floor below. There is Sarah from Lancaster, Sarah from a small Canadian town (about 350 people), Sarah who is reading the bible (for work) and Sara who is from the Island. There are also numerous Clares/Claires and Andys. Tonight I think were going to get slortered at the Pit, and then talk for a bit. I have a 9am Lab tomorrow though, so the plan is to not get to wasted. I will though, especially since I haven drunk for 3 or 4 days, I loose count when Im sober this long!
13-09-01 Last night I got pissed an was in bed (my own) by one. It was quite a quite night, we only started drinking at about 9:30 after I had been doing reading all night, which was interesting, but so much hard work. I think here Biology is a piece of piss, every one reccons its well easy. But today in geography we were doing Math and Physics questions, so that harder than at home. I think Im gonna stop one of my geography courses and do either, The Biology of Invertebrates or Weed Science, which could have many useful applications especially with the potent weeds around here. I started classes at 9 this morning and dont Finnish till 6 in the evening, when I think we are going to watch a Uni Ice hockey game. I have a meeting at 9am tomorrow, so no drinking tonight, one thinks. I have got some new pics, but due to the amount of work today I will put them up on the weekend.
14-09-01 Went to an Ice Hockey game yesterday, which was brilliant. It lasted about 3 Hours even though a period is only supposed to be 20 mins, theirs tones of messin about. But it was a good game even though we lost, it was UBC 2, Vancouver Canucks 6. Number 12 was the best though, getting us one goal, and also starting 2 fights. Though he got his ass kicked in the last one. Today I have had classes and meetings from 9 to 1, so I did shit loads of work. I have also decided to chuck in Geography 200- Weather and Climate, in favour of Biology 326 Invertebrate Biology. However the Bio course is full at the moment which shouldnt be a probable, but I cant find the Prof. anywhere. So other than running about doing that I have been sitting about watching Jackass on TV. I only got 3 hours sleep again last night, so Im gonna get rendered tonight and go for some serious sleep, to catch up. Know one know whats going on again, there is a BBQ, but that costs money and finishes at 8pm. Some people want to go into town, and other want to stay here, well as long as I get of my face, it will be OK.
16-09-01 Been up to quite a bit, bit no work ooops. Friday night, we ended up going to Koerners to drink after going to the BBQ for a bit (it pretty was Bad), and then on to the Pit, where I played pool with Marje for ages, the rules here are very strange and different. You have to nominate pockets for every shot, and people never get 2 goes. Saturday I got up just after Half 11 in the morning, I then decided to go up to Grouse mountain with Elizabeth and Jackie, 2 Ausis I had met in the first week. Grouse mountain is 2 busses and a ferry or sea bus away, but here thats only $1.75 or mega cheap. When we got there the walk up to the top took 2 hours, and was very very steep, like steps most of the way. On the way up we met Shiply an Indian girl, who is in my residence and so she joined the group. After a grooling hike up the Grouse Grind we eventually got to the top, where there were amazing views over the whole of the city. Later on when we got down (via a Cable car, it had gotten dark by then) we went for a Japanese down town, before retiring home. Ones again I stayed up talking until about 3am, and then had a pretty good nights sleep after. Today (Sunday) I got up at 10am, because I had said I was going to go with Kat to help her with Biology work. Kat, Sara and I went of to Stanley Park in the morning to go the Beach, to collect Algae. We pissed about with Crabs, and some strange worm thing that I found, but managed to get tones of Algae, from small stuff to quite a bit piece of Kelp. We then got back where Kat and I sat about drying the stuff out, we used most of it except for the huge strip of Kelp, which was too big, so we hung that in a near by tree. I have done so much this weekend, there are also quite a few more Pic up on the site, or stuff like the Beach, the Hockey Game and Grouse Mountain. Im not sure whats going on tonight, probably not much. Tomorrow I have to get another course to study, which I will pick up a week and a half in, but hay. I think Im gonna take BIOL 327 Introduction to Entomology which sound cool. Going to watch Jeopardy.
17-09-01 Had quite a busy morning today, specially considering that I only have one class now on a Monday at midday. I have now taken the Entomology course, which will probably throw up loads of shit back home, were Im thinking of changing to an Ecology Major. I think Im gonna get some reading done this afternoon, and then possibly go to the cinema, I want to see Jay and Silent Bob strike Back, but other people want to see American Pie 2, I will endeavour to change there minds. I havent seen a film for so long now, especially compared to over summer and last year.
19-09-01 Wow work sucks big time. I now have tones of work to do, which means for the first time since I got here I have a tidy bedroom. It is not an impossibility that my web page may get quite a bit better soon, with stuff like a guest book. Anyhow yesterday I started my new class, Entomology, and the course work for the whole term is to collect, mount and identify 40 Insects, so basically the course work is pissing about with insects then gassing them. They have given me heaps of gas to, I reccon enough to knock out a small mammal. Last night I eventually got to sleep at 4:30 and slept until 11:30am, which is bloody annoying because I was falling asleep in my 4pm Geography class. Last night we went to the cinema to see O which was ok, but nothing special. It was based on Othello, then after trying to sleep for a bit, I went down to 3rd and watched the Family Guy with Shannon, Sarah, Jenn and some guy, that was cool but ended about 2. Today after getting up late, I have had one scary class, which is now basically Physics. Since that I have been trying to do work, and failing miserably. Shannon, Sarah and I went to look round the clubs, Under water Hockey sounds interesting, as does the Ski club and Sailing Club. Its $30 for the Ski club, but then you get tones of discounts on stuff, and a season pass for Whistler for $300, so I reccon I will be doing that then. Must try and do work..
21-09-01 (very early in the morning) Last night (actually I think its still the 20th so thats where I refer to) we didnt do much, I got quite a bit of Entomology done and then had a few beers and got to sleep pretty well. In time for my 9am class, which was pretty cool I think this entomology is just going to be learning a bit and doing some easy work, unlike Geography which is getting more and more like Physics every day. Tonight we just stayed in a did work, I have read this thing I was supposed to read for last Friday and so I have an Hour tomorrow morning to read the stuff for this Friday (not going to happen) Shannon, Sara, Claire and I went for a bit of a walk, but nothing that much and then I have just done work (boring) Tomorrow is going to be a mad, mad day I have a 9am meeting then classes from 11 to about 5 inclusive, but will probably finish Lab early and thus finish more like 3. Then we are going to Victoria on Vancouver Island (see like below) for the weekend, so I wont be able to update my diary for a few days. I also need more memory for my camera, and unless we go to town first, I cant see me getting it, so I dont know how many pics I will get. Speaking of Pic another girl on the corridor below has a web site, and the link below like to her Pics. There are 2 Sarahs on them the shorter one is Lancaster Sarah the taller, blonder one is Canadian Sarah (neither of which I have hung about with much today). My Entomology insect collection is coming a long quite well now, with the inclusion of several types of Moth, a Wasp and a Daddy-long-legs. Right thats about all I will probably update next on Sunday.
Denises Pics Vancouver to Victoria 24-09-01 Wow, Mad weekend. Friday we set of at 5, after my Lab, to Victoria and didnt get there till about 10pm, so we checked into the Youth Hostel and then went to a near Bar, and drank. This brings me on to my first Key lesson: 1/. Never drink any beer with Granville in the title. 1.1/. Especially never drink 4 different beers with Granville in the title, then follow it with a free whisky. Saturday morning I woke up with the worst hang over ever, this continued on all morning, which was rather annoying. We first went to the Royal British Columbia museum, which is huge. Definitely worth visiting, but probably better if your not in major hang over mood, silly me. We then split up, Helen and Claire went shopping (boring) and Matt, Andrew and I went whale watching. This is the first time I have ever got on a boat feeling ill, and got off feeling really good. The boat was about 12 Man, and went extremely quick. We managed to see some Seal. Baby I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey Ooh the more I get of you the stranger it feels yeah Now that your rose is in bloom A light hits the gloom on the grey . and then some Porpouses and next eat some Bull Kelp. Went we got to the whales it was amazing, and we saw tones of Orcas (Killer Whales), one swam right under the boat, and I couldnt believe the size of them. Later we saw some Minki whales playing, and splashing about too. Pics on link below. Saturday night, feeling really sober and very hungry, I couldnt stand eating dinner, we went to the The Empress Hotel, apparently this is very well renowned, but its also bloody expensive. Later that night, we went in search of a bar, and there werent any good ones, with no queue so we went back to the one we went to last night. I only got 2 beers though, and this time they were Stella in Bottles, playing safe, with a nice beer. We also managed to get some more free drinks each and also free games of pool. When we left we went to a pizza shop and they gave us free pizza, wish this happened in England! Sunday we went to the Butchant Gardens, which werent that impressive, compared to some back home, but there Japanese Garden was there saving grace. Lesson 2/. Find out how much boring Garden places cost before paying $9.25 to sneak in as a Youth. Lesson 3/. Do work on the boat on the way back, because its boring and you can get tones done, and not get sick. The trip home took another 4 or 5 hours, and we got back about 8 ish I think. Last night I just stayed up with Shannon, and Cat talking, Shannon is pretty ill, but well there you go. Today I have done shit loads of work, worked in the GIS for about 5 hours on mapping, where I met this girl called, yep you guessed it Sarah. I have got most of my geography done now, just a 300 word essay to go. Doing more work tonight, and then getting drunk I reccon.
Victoria 25-09-01 Not much happening yet today, just classes. Fell asleep wile watching Gladiator last night, and then got woke up at 6:44 this morning, bollox. Going to watch The Canucks Vs the Calgary Flames tonight, so no work is going on today real. Planning the trip down the West Coast of the States, if anyones up for it e-mail me. We need more people to split the cost of either a car or a campervan (R.V.) with. But I dont reccon it will actually get planned till about 2 weeks before we go, in May.
27-09-01 Well today, as I listen to Lou reed, has not been a Perfect day, but it aint been bad. I have done quite a bit of work, been on a field trip round Vancouver and my Entomology Lab. Stuff is going well with all my mates here, and life is getting sweeter. Two nights ago I went to see the Canucks Vs the Calgary Flames (Ice Hockey) I enjoyed it, but the game wasnt as good as the last one a 1-1 score and only one fight! Yesterday I did 2 essays and then went to get beer from the liqueur store. They cant sell it anywhere else here, gay I know. I got some Stella and Grolsch, which is so good, compared to the Canadian stuff. Which brings me on to more stuff that I miss from home, so for all you, these are the things you should think about: Driving Cars Ribena Family and Friends, of course, but I would kill for Ribena Big TV, and also British TV in general, Canadian Cable is shit. Jenx, Popscene, Thursday night Sugar house Beer, especially Stell and Grolsh (even Fosters a bit!!) Cheap Bread (its so bloody expensive) Decent Chocolate (also very expensive and shit too) Music, too much R&B and Hip-Hop shit here, The accent, though only you people from home, Free Cinema (thanks Phil) Any how, here is brilliant. Last night I went blading with Sarah, then watched Thomas Crown Affair, with Sarah, Matt and Claire. Im thinking of getting a DVD drive for my Laptop because I need films, and cheap ones at that. To night I think were watching Snatch, and drink some more beer! I think I might be becoming an Alcoholic, but the weight is going, because I walk about so much
29-09-01 Currently suffering from a majorly bad hang over, one of Biblical proportions. Following last nights Toga party, which I cant really remember at all. Not much to say really, handed all my essays in eventually, and now have more work to do, but I will probably sit about talking to people and watching the Simpsons all day, unless this hang over sorts its self out more. Might go and see Jay and Silent Bob strike back but may leave that till Tuesday when the cinemas are half price. Other than that I dont know whats going on, most of the international students went away for the weekend to Whistler, doing stuff, but its was too expencive and there aint no snow yet. I went for my Ski Pass yesterday $300 for the year, cool, but they need either a money order or a credit card, neither of which I have, so thats next weeks mission.
30-09-01 Last night I went to see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which was an enjoyable film, though certainly not as good as Clerks or Mallrats, though its the same sort of film as Mallrats, compared to Chasing Amy or Dogma. I though it was worth watching though. I went with Matt, then we went looking round some DVD shops, and they are so cheap here, I must resist getting a player, and shit loads of films, especially if Im going skiing heaps. When we got back we went to Brianna room in the Basement to watch Fight Club. Then stayed up talking to Kat till about 3, about life and general shit. Today I got up later and went to the Japaneses Gardens trying to catcher Insects for Entomology, I managed to catcher 2 Dragonflies mating, but let them go because I only needed one, and one that wasnt jointed to another. I managed to get a Pond skater, which is cool. I have also done a bit of work and gone blading with Sarah. Not sure what were up to tonight, but I only have one beer left now, so I dont think it will be that much.
